In/Time/Out

”In/Time/Out” is a story of nostalgia and longing. It unravels life’s fragility in the face of time through a series of rhythmic movements. Combining elements of poetry, original choreography and visual imagery, the multimedia piece blurs the boundary between fantasy and reality, painting emotions in a dreamy realm of colours.

”In/Time/Out” features a collection of videos taken by the artist over the years. It leads the audience through a sea of memories revisited during quarantine, celebrating the precious moments which were lost in time. The title suggests the duality of being in time and out of time. It challenges the audience to view each encounter as a blessing, rather than reminiscing on what could be but had not been.

”We might be out of time, but how lucky I am to have met you in time.”

Breathe Easy

Video & Movement Artist: Gladys Lou

Singer & Songwriter: Davrielle

Music Producer (with additional vocal): Ahmed Hegazy

Breathe Easy is a meditative music video inspired by the style of a mantra. Gladys collaborated with the songwriter, Davrielle and the music producer, Ahmed Hegazy to create this piece, guiding the audience to calm down and focus on breathing during a panic attack.

The colours flicker and change throughout the video to mimic the shifting states of mind and uncontrolled stream of thoughts when experiencing anxiety. Actions such as ripping paper and hitting objects are imageries and associations in Gladys’ mind when releasing emotions. Visual images such as waterfall and candle flames are natural elements that bring peace to her mind. The choreography follows the rhythm and lyrics of the song, amplifying the emotional overtone of the music.

Shadow: A Monologue

“Shadow: A Monologue” is a story of identity told from the perspective of a shadow. It posts a question on existence, expectation, and the meaning of self. The visual collage is made by overlaying clips of my choreography with obscure objects around my flat, emphasizing the idea of hiding and burying. A reading of my poem is accompanied by my singing, the sound of water, and piano melodies to create moments of dissonance, peace, and chaos. The work is inspired by my experience of social anxiety, and the psychological barrier it has built up around me. The images and words in the piece provide room for contemplation, allowing multiple levels of interpretation.
